ADULT DELEGATION ADVISOR

The Adult Advisor is responsible for the behavior of their students and compliance with all program deadlines. It is highly recommended that adult advisors assist their students in preparation for the program. Advisors should meet as a delegation on a regular basis to ensure that students are clear on program expectations and are fully prepared for Conference. Country & topic research are a priority in preparing students in order to complete the required documents. Students also need to learn and practice parliamentary procedure for efficient debate at Conference. Delegate preparation should include discussions on conference values (honesty, respect, caring and responsibility) which are vital for a successful experience for all participants. Advisors are assigned to a committee during Conference. At Conference, Advisors will be asked to fulfill their selected duty, in addition to supervising their delegates. Advisors are requested to assist delegates who may have questions or concerns during the course of Conference. All Advisors are required to remain in the hallway for a minimum of 30 minutes after curfew to ensure that students remain in the rooms and quiet.

SUPPORT STAFF

The Support Staff are former students who have graduated from the program and return to Conference to provide assistance and act as role models for the delegates. This team of alumni staff helps to create and implement changes to the structure and operation of Conference. They oversee and facilitate all Conference-related events and efforts. Support Staff members are assigned to a specific task for the entire weekend, which is primarily to provide guidance to a chair or delegates.

RESOURCE ROOM

The Resource Room serves as a resource for delegates throughout the conference. The Resource Room will serve as the center for research materials and topic development. If delegates want to update or supplement their research, they may submit a Resource Room request for impromptu information necessary for debate or resolution writing. The Resource Room will be open throughout the conference as a place where delegates may find guidance and information. The Resource Room will have files of all the Country Research Forms and Position Papers prepared for the conference so delegates may access these original documents. Additionally, the Resource Room will have supplementary resources about United Nations Member States, as well as other reference materials.

HOME OFFICE

The Home Office serves as the central processing point for the conference. All administrative activities for the conference take place here. In case of an emergency or to leave a message for anyone associated with the conference, please stop by this office, located in the coatroom across from the Confection Hall in the lower floor of the Conference Center.

DELEGATES

Each delegation to the program faces an exciting and challenging task in preparing materials to become a United Nations Ambassador. Delegates must do some intensive research on a variety of topics and be prepared to defend and debate the position(s) held by their country. Moreover, the delegate must be prepared to undertake formal negotiations within their committee caucuses and make impromptu speeches explaining their country’s position on the assigned topics.

An important element of the conference is the responsibility of each delegate to prepare for the conference to ensure a constructive and informed discussion on issues that will take place. Consequently, students are required to prepare Primary and Final Documents (including position papers, draft resolutions, briefs, memorandums, writing samples, country research questionnaires, news articles, etc) that encompasses all the topics pertaining to their respective committee. All documents should include the student’s name, delegation, and country/position. The research should be properly referenced. All documents will be reviewed and awards will be presented during the conference to the best ones. Documents will be judged according to readability, grammar (for written documents), content, accuracy, and a demonstration of research.
