YOUTH SECRETARIAT

The Youth Secretariat is the planning and recruitment committee of Y-MUN. Youth Secretariat members are responsible for helping recruit new members to their delegation and are trained in conference procedure and structure. They also relay all pertinent information to their delegations and facilitate delegation meetings during the conference.

Youth Secretariat members will meet two times a year: once in the fall and once during conference in January. Members are selected by the delegation advisor to represent their delegation. Youth Secretariat members will be appointed at the close of the Conference each year. Each member serves for the conference year they are appointed. 1 youth secretariat per 20 students in the delegation must be chosen.

Youth Secretariat members must attend a training meeting September 19th.

OFFICERS

All elected officers must file a Program Leadership Form at the Conference to be eligible to run for office. This form is included in the Conference Manual in January. The only exception is the Secretary General, who declares their intent to run for office for the following year by NOVEMBER 1st.

SECRETARY GENERAL

The Secretary General is the Chief Executive of the Conference. Delegates elect the Secretary General one year in advance during Conference. The Secretary General position requires a candidate, who is highly motivated, dedicated, demonstrates strong leadership characteristics, can plan and manage multiple tasks, and has a desire to empower and lead other delegates. The significant demands placed upon the Secretary General require all candidates to be returning juniors. Candidates will be given an opportunity to speak to all delegates via our website.  Based on the “primary election” (done in each individual delegation in December; results reported on December 18th), the top two candidates will debate and speak at the conference during the elections on Saturday afternoon. Election results will be announced during the conference. The Secretary General is responsible for:

  • Developing the discussion topics
  • Leading Youth Secretariat meetings
  • Coordinating the efforts of the elected officers
  • Evaluate and recommend the advancement of proposals from the GA Subcommittees to the GA
  • Mediating any and all international disputes
  • Additional duties as necessary

Committee Chairs & Vice-Chairs:

Each chair/president is responsible for maintaining order and ensuring the smooth procedural operation of their respective committee.  The vice-chairs provide support for the chair and assist in the operation of the committee.  They are elected on the Sunday morning session at the conference. Students elected are required to attend the mandatory Officer’s Training weekend March 2011 in Mt Laurel, NJ.
