Key Changes for 2011 Conference PDF Print E-mail
  • Country Research Paper replaces “Position Papers” & “Draft Resolutions”
  • We have developed a comprehensive preparation document called “Country Research Paper” (CRP).  The CRP combines aspects of “Position Papers” & “Draft Resolutions” to best prepare delegates for the conference.  The Country Research Paper is due December 1st.
  • December 1st due date for student Pre Conference Documents
  • With the new consolidated preparation document (Country Research Paper) we have a later submission on December 1st for all student preparation documents.  The only exception is the ICC/ICJ memorandums which are due on November 1st.
  • Council for Economic Advancement replaces Economics -Finance Committee
  • The Economics-Finance committee has been replaced with the Council for Economic Advancement.  This new committee improves the discussion on economic issues with an amended process and committee procedure during the conference session.
  • Courts (ICC/ICJ) Assigned by Schools
  • Due to historical difficulty of students from different schools effectively working as attorney teams, ICC/ICJ assignments will be made in groups of 4 from the same school.  If a school does not have a team of 4 students, the advisor must take the responsibility for creating a team of 4 with a nearby school/delegation.  The purpose of this change is to insure that students are properly paired to prepare and present their side of the case.  Once the request has been approved for the ICC/ICJ, each delegate should immediately begin research and preparation of their memorandums which are due November 1st.
  • General Assembly Assignment in Pairs
  • Assignments to the General Assembly will be made in pairs of the same country.  For example, a school will be assigned “Panama” in “General Assembly A” and “General Assembly B”.  This will allow students within your school to work together on their preparation and research.
  • Conference/Service Project Theme
  • The officers have selected “Education” as the theme of the 2011.  Most committees have one topic that discusses issues around education.  To reinforce the theme, our service project will be a Book drive. The officers are asking delegates to bring new or used books that will be distributed to organizations that work in urban and international environments to promote literacy.
  • ENVOYS
  • “Envoys” are a special committee designed just for 7th & 8th grade students that will introduce them to the various elements of the program. These students will represent countries through a modified committee structure that emulates the debate & problem solving of the high school student’s experience. Through working with our alumni staff and select advisors, the envoys will be well prepared to become successful delegates when they return in 9th grade. Therefore, we strongly encourage high school delegations to bring students from their middle schools to participate in this new aspect of the program.



PREPARATION RESOURCES & MATERIALS

These options include:

  • Video segments added to the website
  • Lessons plans for delegation meetings
  • Local training with program alumni, officers & staff
  • “Conference Practice Session” Regional trainings (partnerships between delegations to practice resolution writing & debate)




SECRETARY GENERAL CANDIDATES
Secretary General Candidates must submit their forms by November 1st along with a 2 minute video speech (to be posted on the website by Nov. 30th along with their candidate profile). By December 1st, each advisor will submit the official delegation ballot listing the number of votes each candidate has received from the delegation.

$100 student and advisor deposit is due November 1st

The Delegation Roster & Hotel Form are combined into one excel file, due December 1st.
