I regret not having the experience since I was a freshman but I unfortunately did not know what MUN was then. Despite this, I believe I would be a great candidate for Secretary General for the 2013 conference because I am hard working, efficient, organized, and have many ideas to make the conference more informative and enjoyable. Because of my immense involvement in clubs and activities, I am very experienced in meeting deadlines and being efficient. I believe it is important to stay on task and get things done to the best of your ability. The best way to get things done efficiently is to work collaboratively with a group of people. I get along with people extremely well and I am able to lead a large group to a resolution easily. Having fun is a major part of model UN and to ensure that the 2013 conference will be just that, it is important for the secretary general to put in much hard work beforehand. Due to the tremendous amount of community service I do, amount of school work I have, and my job, I am a hard worker and therefore will ensure the delegates have as fun of a time as I have had in the past. If I were not organized, I wouldn’t be able to be involved in half the activities I do. Therefore I am extremely organized and keep everything in perfect order. Because Secretary General is such a huge position to undertake, someone who is extremely organized must be elected. I can definitely carry out this characteristic because my life revolves around organization. I am running for Secretary General because I thoroughly enjoy participating in it and I wish to be a big part of the hard work that goes into making the conference enjoyable. I have many ideas that I hope to have the opportunity to introduce to enhance our experience in 2013. As I will be a senior, I will especially hope to make this the absolute best Model UN conference for the seniors. Because Model UN means so much to me, being elected Secretary General would be a dream come true. I believe I am fit for this position for a number of reasons, which includes my leadership experience and organizational skills. I hope to lead the 2013 Model UN conference! BIO Grade: 11th (must be a junior) Years in YMCA Model UN: 2 Country & Committee Assignment: Ukraine- Council on Economic Advancement A School /Delegation: Red Bank Catholic High School List past leadership positions held: -Co-vice president for Model UN and Athletic Team at my school -Student Council Secretary since my freshman year at Red Bank Catholic -Running a free Thanksgiving dinner for the less fortunate in my community -President of my middle school National Junior Honor Society List 3 strengths and 2 weaknesses you have and briefly explain: I am well organized, outspoken, and hard working. I am constantly on top of everything that needs to be done. Being involved in over 10 different clubs and activities forces me to be extremely organized, as well as hard working. I am straight to the point and therefore I am efficient in getting things done. I tend to talk too much and have short amount of patience. Although I am a people person, sometimes I become to caught up in a conversation and talk too much. I also sometimes lose my patience fast, but I’m working on it! If elected as Secretary General, pick a relevant global issue you would consider as the conference theme and explain a feasible service project to address it: Global Environmental issues are currently a tremendous problem in our world. There is a number of different environmental issues that need to be addressed; such as massive extinctions, global warming, energy conservation, and pollution. To act in a more “green” way would not only help animals and make our world cleaner, but would also make expenses cheaper and enhance human health. Actions are being taken already to help these different causes but to enhance it even further, nonprofit fundraisers can raise money while informing communities of how going “green” could be beneficial. It would not only help the planet, but also the economy. Detail an instance where you acted socially responsible in accord with the goals of Y-MUN: Because Model UN means a great deal to me, when I was informed of a problem that may have affected the number of participants from Red Bank Catholic, I immediately took action. After working together, a co-president and I decided to inform our delegation’s supervisor. She took immediate action and the problem was resolved. Therefore we did not lose any delegates. |
